It's Gonna be One Hot Summer with Glee's Matthew Morrison

Saturday, April 02, 2011
Glee's coolest teacher -- Mr. Schue -- is megawatt-hot this summer. Despite rumors that the highly-successful Glee show will be ending soon, Matthew Morrison says he is "still in Glee mode right now,” disclosing this trivia to Ryan Seacrest on E! News.

Glee may end soon, but Matthew Morrison's musical talent can no longer be contained by the television box alone. As a matter of fact, Morrison will take a musical journey this summer, beginning in June in Minneapolis until July in Los Angeles, showcasing his delightful talent with music evoking a "'40s and '50s New York feel."

Morrison will be on 20 cities for this musical trip, and several A-listers are expected to join him in some of these gigs, such as Gwyneth Paltrow and Elton John. These Hollywood biggies collaborated with Morrison and were featured in his solo album.

Gleeks are already in that delicious stage of anticipation, awaiting the arrival of the hottie Glee teacher in their cities. Presales start April 4.

American Idol Double Elimination for Thia Megia and Naima Adedapo

Friday, April 01, 2011

"I'm glad the last song I did on the show was dedicated to my brother," Thia Megia said after last Friday's double elimination wherein she and fellow American Idol contestant Naima Adedapo finally left the Idol stage for good. Thia refers to "Daniel" as her swan song in said show. The judges thought her rendition of the classic Elton John song was safe but which she said she poured her heart out on because she dedicated it to her older brother.

Naima Adedapo's reggae take on "I'm Still Standing" may have displeased the judges and the American Idol audiences, and her colorful persona and interesting dance moves were not enough to send her through to the next week. "Sometimes people just didn't know where to place me," Adedapo said when asked if her outrageous style was conflicting with American Idol audiences' preference to get to the best vocalists in the bunch.

The double elimination reduced fellow American Idol contestant Lauren Alaina to tears, perhaps because Adedapo has gotten close to the 16-year-old during the finals run. The teenager considers Adedapo a mother figure who has always encouraged her to be more confident of her talent and in herself. Losing Thia Megia became a personal double blow to Alaina, who enjoyed bonding with someone her own age in classes and rehearsals and all during the punishing American Idol finals run.

Guitar-Plucking Sandra Bullock at Nashville Rising

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

You can't keep a good woman down.

Sandra Bullock showed up at the star-studded Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert for Flood Recovery last Tuesday and wowed the crowd with her " tongue-in-cheek guitar plucking," People reported. Sandy put in a surprise appearance in the concert that raked in more than $2 million for flood victims.

The concert was hosted by Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Hill's real-life husband and Sandy's screen husband in her movie "The Blind Side". The 15,000-strong crowd gave Sandra Bullock a standing ovation after she yelled "I'm going to bring the house down," swung an acoustic guitar over her shoulder, and began the opening notes to "Smoke On the Water." Of course, she was only joking as she stopped playing and introduced Faith Hill instead.

Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, ZZ Top, Martina McBride, LeAnn Rimes and Miley Cyrus are among the more serious performers.

Celine Dion's Twin Pregnancy

Monday, May 31, 2010

After last year's ups and downs in the personal life of Celine Dion and husband René Angélil, courtesy of expecting their second child and losing it months later in November, E! News reports that the couple is expecting again this year. Not just a second, but a third child as well. Twins! From a zero last year to double this year, not bad for the Canadian crooner long struggling to be a mom again.

Angelil, who is also Celine Dion's manager, disclosed that they were not discouraged after losing the baby last year. "... We put our faith in life and in the stars," he said in an interview shortly after their loss last year.

Several in-vitro fertilization and acupuncture treatments later, Celine Dion will finally become a mother to twins, being 14 weeks pregnant as of this writing.

Their first child, by the way, was also conceived in-vitro.

Lee DeWyze is the New American Idol

Thursday, May 27, 2010

The paint store worker won over the single mom. And many are not happy about it. Mary T. Kelly raged about Lee DeWyze winning as this year's "American Idol" in Salon.com. She blamed it on America's texting tweens, who'd rather go for bland performer Lee than appreciate Crystal Bowersox' constantly and consistently powerhouse performances.

In the show's finale, Lee's performance is upstaged, as usual by Crystal's. And in a night packed with performances from Janet Jackson and Idols Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, to name a few, the guy who "spent the season looking like a deer caught in the headlights" didn't stand a chance. Add to that Paula Abdul's pink dress and Simon Cowell's goodbye speech. . . Lee who?

Kelly was right on one thing, though. "If there was a competition for being humble and grateful, he should win it," as Lee fell to the ground, overcome with emotion, after the announcement that he won.

Beyoncé' YouTube Videos on Copyright Issue

Monday, April 05, 2010

Bad news for Beyoncé fans. They can no longer view "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It!)" in YouTube because of a copyright infringement issue, according to E!Online. Try YouTubing the Grammy winner's music videos and you will get this message: "This video contains content from Sony Music Entertainment, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds."

This message is a result of a lockdown by Sony on Beyoncé' works of art, and is seen by Motherboard, a techie website, as a sinister plot by the "floundering record industry" to get a piece of the lucrative online video pie. If that is really true, then music videos from other artists maybe locked down as well. And that is bad news to music fans everywhere.

Shakira-Style Dancing Lawsuit Dismissed

Monday, October 26, 2009

Readers of The New York Post have been having a lively discussion on the merits of the dismissed case filed by 21-year old Megan Zacher, who will now go down in history as the girl who can't "Shake It Like Shakira."

Megan filed a lawsuit against Calico Jack's Cantina after falling down and shredding some knee ligaments as she danced in the bar's "Shake It Like Shakira" contest. Her suit claims that the bar should have told contestants that Shakira's signature hip-gyrations was "dangerous and likely to cause injury."

. . . Please wait while I lower my eyebrow. The left.

NY Post readers are passionate in their opinions, ranging from rants: "moonbat liberal loons who think others should pay for your own suptidity" to a sober "the girls were sprayed with water from the bar, creating a dangerous condition which caused substantial injuries."

Eminem and Mariah Carey Feud in a Song

Monday, August 03, 2009

Taking rapping to uncertain levels, Eminem adds fuel to his conflict with Mariah Carey and her husband, "America’s Got Talent” host Nick Cannon with his latest production, a song called “The Warning,” where Eminem lets loose a volley of profane words and hints of "dirt" dug up against the singer, according to Access Hollywood.

The Eminem-Mariah Carey-Nick Cannon feud fest is a surreal "love" triangle, if you believe Eminem's claims in the song that he has slept with Mariah Carey "once.” Eminem previously embedded a message bomb in the song “Bagpipes from Baghdad” from his album “Relapse,” targeting Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon with the suggestion that the two should break up.

Then Nick Cannon called Eminem “Slim Lamey” in a blog post, and Mariah Carey seemingly responded in her “Obsessed” video with the chorus, “Why you so obsessed with me/lyin’ that you’re sexin’ me.”

Children, children!

Superfan says Britney Spears Saved Her Life

Monday, July 27, 2009

A light in the darkness. Who would've imagined Britney Spears could be like that to anyone, if at all? Begone, unbelievers! Apparently, there are quite a lot of Britney Spears fans who thought Britney Spears saved them from their own personal hell. According to Newsweek, a new documentary called "Britney Spears Saved My Life" will be debuting this month on BBC and the docu will present some die-hard Britney Spears fans who followed her tumultuous love and life and totally connected with her on this profound level. And when the going got tough for these troubled fans, the tough turned to Britney Spears stories splashed on morning tabloids and seemingly felt better afterward.

In the film, fans claim Britney Spears inspired them in the darkest and most confusing moments of their lives as they battled their own eating disorders and varying stages of depression. Maybe it's the music, because music is after all therapeutic. Think "Oops, I Did it Again!" Or was it because Britney Spears was messed up on such a grand scale back then that other mess-ups paled in comparison?

New Miley Photos: "Oops, I Did It Again"

Friday, July 03, 2009

First the Vanity Fair magazine "racy" photos, then the "slanty eyes" photo brouhaha that offended some quarters of the American Asian community. Now here come a couple of Miley Cyrus pictures posted by 44-year-old filmmaker Adam Shankman, who produces Miley's new movie The Last Song, on Twitter that begs the question: "Is Miley Cyrus really as Disney-wholesome as she claims to be?"

The Sun reports that the first picture is of Miley sitting provocatively backwards in a chair, and the second is of Miley and Shankman together. Shankman defended the photos, saying: "Miley is a sweet angel who works tirelessly and endlessly and is allowed to have fun in the make up room." He advises fans to "lighten up" over the photos. In both pictures, Miley Cyrus looks like a . . . grownup.

What's the big deal with Miley growing up, anyway? A whole lot, apparently, in the lucrative Disney Kingdom where kids are the subjects and Miley is the current ruling princess AND role-model.

"False Emotions" for Michael Jackson?

Monday, June 29, 2009

Are those claiming to grieve over Michael Jackson's death just pretending? Is this collective outpouring of grief from everyone everywhere around the globe all a big balloon of . . . hot air?

It's a hard question to ask, and the answer is even harder to tackle. But Hadley Freeman from the Guardian dares to ask and answer this question anyway. It's not easy given the current situation, where all TV and radio stations across the world broadcast the story of the life, music and death of the iconic Michael Jackson, hour after hour, over and over again. With Hollywood celebrities coming out of the woodwork to "pay tribute" of the "what a great man Michael Jackson was" variety, to "fans" gazing forlornly in front of the camera saying they love Michael Jackson so, and that they have tickets to his upcoming concert this year "This is it!"

Hadley Freeman thinks "that the desire for collective emotion leads only to false emotion" in the case of the death of Michael Jackson. Freeman touches on the "multiplicity" of media, saying "Jackson's was not an unblemished life and this makes it tricky for the news channels and tweeting celebrities who long for nothing more than to bathe in the soapy, sudsy pleasure of hyperbolic adoration and eulogies."

Many people share the same skepticism. While not in any way disdaining the feelings of truly grieving Michael Jackson fans, it's worth remembering that when he was alive, the Hollywood press fed Michael Jackson's quirky life unmercifully to the voracious appetite of fans. They consumed him and all that he was, but seldom was there a show of support for the man, more a show of mockery for his quirks. And now with his sudden passing and faced with all this belated tributes and accolades, well.... the irony of it is just too striking to ignore.

Goodbye, Michael Jackson

Thursday, June 25, 2009

The dazzling lights of Hollywood tinseltown dimmed somewhat today with the passing of one of the most famous Hollywood celebrities of all time -- Michael Jackson. The New York Times reported on Michael Jackson's death Thursday afternoon at the U.C.L.A. Medical Center, where Jackson was rushed from his mansion by paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department, after reportedly collapsing of cardiac arrest. Michael Jackson was 50 years old.

One of the biggest Hollywood stars with mega-watt status like Elvis Presley and the Beatles, his death reverberated across the nation today, with radio stations playing a marathon session of many of his famous songs such as “Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough,” “Billie Jean” and “Black and White”.

Despite his descent from being one of the most famous Hollywood stars to one of the most weirdly controversial (pedophilia case, multiple plastic surgeries, bankruptcy, making his children wear masks, etc.), Michael Jackson's singing, dancing and song-writing talent, together with his Hollywood star power, is still hard to beat by ordinary Hollywood celebrities of today.

Whitney Houston's Comeback

Friday, June 12, 2009

Whitney fans, rejoice! After years of nothing but bad news on the singer's life -- drug problems, health issues, legal battle with father John Houston, divorce with singer Bobby Brown, and financial problems -- Whitney will finally stage a comeback with an as-yet-untitled album on Arista Records, set for September 1 release, according to Billboard.

This album is readied for release even as early as now, with Whitney's official website running track previews of her up-coming album. Producers and songwriters who believe in the singer's great voice is said to be helping in the creation of the comeback album, namely will.i.am, Sean Garrett and Akon.

"The voice is there; I don't think anyone could ever take that from her. As long as we apply that voice to hit records, she'll be right back where she left off," Akon told Billboard in 2007.

Michael Jackson's Kids Unmasked

Monday, June 08, 2009

12-year old Prince Michael and 11-year old Paris are showbiz celebrities, having Michael Jackson for their biological father. And yet it's rare to get a glimpse of these kids, being constantly guarded by huge bodyguards wherever they go, and wearing masks all the time! But the Daily Mail recently caught a glimpse of the kids unmasked as they walked through a car park at a Los Angeles studio.

Turns out, these are two lovely-looking, albeit unsmiling kids. They don't look like their father but has similarities more with mom Debbie Rowe, who married Jacko in 1996. They look like normal kids, but when they realized they were spotted unmasked, went out later on with the masks on. It's not medical masks, the kind you use to ward off swine flu. They wore carnival masks! Hope these kids are ok.

Who's the photo leaker of Rihanna's battered face?

Thursday, May 14, 2009

Chris Brown pleads not guilty to felony assault on (ex)-girlfriend Rihanna and turns on the LAPD for possibly leaking the decidedly unglamorous photo of good-girl-gone-battered Rihanna to the media, according to the NY Daily News. Chris Brown's lawyer wants to find out if there is "misconduct" in the photos being slipped to TMZ and if any LAPD personnel did the slipping. Never mind that the photo leak is not the "misconduct" here but the assault on Rihanna.

Rihanna's battered mug is not easy to look at, given the girl's constant media-perfect look, and the photo leak could potentially impact on the ongoing case between the ex-lovers.
